How long does the study last?

Which cats & dogs are eligible?

Dogs and cats with diarrhea lasting >48 hours or a history of recurring loose stools
≥1 year of age
Dogs: 12–120 lbs | Cats: 5–15 lbs
Fecal score ≥3 (soft but still formed stool)

Which cats & dogs are NOT eligible?

Cats or dogs should not be enrolled if further diagnostics or treatment are warranted.

Key exclusions include:

Suspected infectious, parasitic, toxic, or surgical causes (e.g., foreign body)
Concurrent treatments that may influence results (antibiotics, probiotics, GI medications, etc.)
Chronic or systemic disease (e.g., unexplained weight loss, chronic vomiting, suspected IBD/lymphoma)
Pregnant, nursing, or pediatric cats & dogs

What are my responsibilities as the veterinarian?

Obtain signed owner consent prior to participation

Risks/benefits and alternatives
Complete pre- and post-study exams
Ensure study data (owner logs + exam findings) is submitted

How does compensation work?

Accepted Answer

$200 per completed case paid to the veterinary hospital
(Many clinics split this between the hospital and participating veterinarian)
$100 paid directly to the pet owner
Payment is issued after complete study data is submitted.

What are the potential benefits for participating pets?

14 days of supplement provided at no cost

What are the potential risks?

If an adverse event occurs and requires treatment, the sponsor will cover up to $200 per case.

Can a cat or dog withdraw from the study?

Yes. Participation is voluntary, and pets may be withdrawn at any time. However, compensation is tied to completion of study data.

How disruptive is this to my workflow?

Minimal. Enrollment and exams occur during routine visits, and daily monitoring is completed by the pet owner at home.

Do I need to change how I treat the dog or cat?

No. Participation does not replace clinical judgment. If a dog or cat requires diagnostics or treatment, they should not be enrolled or should be withdrawn.

What happens to the study data?

Study data collected (exam findings and owner-reported outcomes) may be used by the sponsor for research and product development purposes. Client and Veterinarian identity remains confidential.

What if the dog or cat worsens during the study?

Dogs & cats should be withdrawn and treated appropriately if clinical signs worsen or if additional medical intervention is needed.
